The city’s top culinary fundraiser, Toronto Taste, took place on Sunday June 12th in support of raising funds for Second Harvest. The event which celebrated its 26th year brings together over 1,500 passionate foodies to mix and mingle with celebrity chefs, enjoy taste offerings from over 90 Toronto restaurants and beverage purveyors, watch chefs competing in the chef challenge, win amazing raffle prizes and bid on numerous items in Toronto Taste’s wine, live and silent auctions.
Since 1991, the event has raised over $11 million to support Second Harvest’s food rescue program. This means that Second Harvest trucks can continue on the road everyday rescuing good food to be delivered to social service agencies feeding children, adults and seniors experiencing hunger. One ticket purchased to Toronto Taste provides enough food for 520 meals for people in need.
This year’s event was a huge success raising over $850,000 for Second Harvest, allowing them to provide 1.7 million meals for those in need.

The event was extremely organized, food and drink was plentiful, and everyone seemed to be in generous and good spirits. My goal was to try all of the restaurant vendors in attendance but that was a huge feat that I failed miserably at. I did get to indulge in about a quarter of the dishes available and here's what I tried:
Salmon Oshizushi from JaBistro
Chicken Tandoori Eclairs from George Brown Chef School
Duck Pastrami from Scaramouche
Fresh Oysters from Rodney's Oyster House
Strawberry Shortcakes from Cafe Belong
Albacore Tuna Conserva from Enoteca Sociale
Reuben Sausage from Maple Leaf Tavern
Tuna Sliders from Little Fin
Sweet Pea and Ricotta Aavarin from Cluny
Cured Trout from Boralia
Scallop and Shrimp Balls from Patois
Blackened Hanger Steak from Roger Mooking
Trout Ceviche from Steven Gonzalez
Ribs from The Carbon Bar
Crab Tostadita from El Catrin
Shrimp Scampi from Little Anthonys
S'MORES from Ace Bakery
Ontario Lamb Bresaola from EPIC at the Fairmont Royal York
Crab Sabayon from Globe Bistro
Trout Pepperoni from Tundra Restaurant
Smoked Beef Brisket from Beretta Kitchen
The above dishes were just a small portion of what was available at Toronto Taste and I didn't even get around to all of the wonderful beverages at the event.
Chef Challenge featuring Kaya Ogruce, Darby Piquette and Ivana Raca
Toronto Taste is truly one of the best culinary events in the city and I was very happy to be able to attend this event for the first time and take part in such a charitable and extravagant experience.
