Toronto's Festival of Beer

It’s that time of year again for my favourite summer festival in Toronto, Beer-fest! Toronto’s Festival of Beer is a celebration of Canada’s rich brewing history, showcasing experts of the brewing craft from around the world. Featuring more than 200 brands, Toronto’s Festival of Beer is Canada’s premier celebration of the golden beverage. The festival takes place July 26th 4:30 - 11:00pm, July 27th 1:30 - 8:00pm and July 28th 1:30 - 8:00pm at Bandshell Park in Exhibition Place, Toronto.

I’ve attended Beerfest for the past 5 or 6 years and have always had such a fantastic time.  A lot of people use it as an excuse to get sloppy drunk out in the sun but I actually do look forward to sampling out good beer and food. I’m really excited for this year’s event because they have designated a specific section at the festival for New Brews from Canada, along with a showcase of West Coast beers in their World of Beer Pavilion. Some of the West Coast favourites include Granville Island (the hefeweizen is amazing), Central City Brewing Company, Tree Brewery, Rouge Brewery and more.  Also keep your eyes open for Sierra Nevada, Stone Brewing, Firestone Walker and Silver City Brewing popping up in the World of Beer Pavilion as well. I've scanned through the list of exhibitors this year and I’m very pleased to see some new exhibitors such as Somersby and a big favourite of mine, Tusker Premium Lager from Kenya (a must try).

Along with good beer comes good food! This year the list has some of my favourite places in the city! Food from MELT grilled cheese, Rock Lobsterfood Co, Oyster Boy, Pizza Libretto, Smokes Poutinerie, and many more. The problem with such good food choices is I want to try them all.  Beer makes decision-making even harder so If I end up trying something from each booth, please don’t judge me haha.

There will also be great artists performing each day:
Friday - Escort and De La Soul
Saturday - Spin Doctors

Sunday - Big Sugar

Also new to the festival this year is a smartphone app Hailo.  An evolution of the traditional hail, Hailo is a free smartphone app which puts people just two taps away from a licensed Toronto taxi. "Guest safety is our top priority — we want people to have fun, but also enjoy themselves responsibly and take all necessary precautions when arranging transportation to and from the festival," said Les Murray, President of Toronto's Festival of Beer. "We created this partnership with Hailo to ensure that everyone attending the festival has a way home that is safe, reliable and easy."

Hailo is a free download for iPhone and Android at hailocab.com/toronto.

  21. I really wish I were more of a beer fan! I can totally appreciate everything about the process and artisanal method... except for the end result. Maybe I just need more practice and time ;)
