Hello Foodies! Only 3 days left until
CHRISTMAS! Are you excited? I still have some shopping to do which is so tardy of me because now I'll be stuck in long
line-ups at the mall. I don't like being so last minute but this year has just
been so busy. Hopefully I can get in and out of the mall within 1 hour max, but
that’s just wishful thinking.
With the hustle and bustle of the season a
lot of people tend to skip out on important meals such as breakfast. We all know that breakfast is the most
important meal of the day and it doesn’t have to always be a lavish pancake,
bacon, egg ensemble! It can be as simple as yogurt with fruit, toast with
almond butter, or one of my favourites…OATMEAL!
I never used to like oatmeal because of the
mushy texture but I’ve learned to absolutely love it. I tend to always use a little less water so
that it’s not overly runny. My preferred
choice of oatmeal is steel-cut oats but I don’t always have the time to prepare
it. I have tried many of the instant oatmeal
brands available but they just don’t do it for me, they taste really sweet and artificial.
I recently discovered Sally’s Cereal brands at Loblaw’s and decided to give it
a try. The main reason I bought this
package of instant oatmeal is because it was cheap (only $2 for a package of 5
pouches), it is multigrain with flax and it’s organic. There were three flavors
on the shelf, plain grain, apples and cinnamon and maple and brown sugar. I went for the plain grain because I like to
add my own toppings to jazz it up.
The nutrition facts per one pouch of the
plain grain oatmeal is:
Overall this product is fantastic for those
who like to shop organic brands but cringe every time the price tag reads $6.99
for a box of all-natural cereal. This is such
a budget-friendly alternative and it doesn’t skimp out on taste. This product has recently become available at
all Wal-Marts in Canada and I picked up a few of the other flavours like chai
and dark chocolate for less than $2! If you’re always in a rush in the morning
like me, this breakfast option only takes a few minutes to prepare. The topping options are endless and some of
my faves are:
- Banana and dark chocolate
- Slivered almonds, cinnamon and chopped apple
- Chia seeds, raw cocoa nibs and unsweetened coconut flakes

Happy Eating :)

how is the dark chocolate flavor?

DeleteYou are so right! With all there is to do this time of year, sometimes you don't focus on your diet. That's what I'm finding. This is a great, healthy breakfast idea! :)
ReplyDeleteI love easy (and tasty!) and this certainly seems to be both. Good stuff - thanks so much for sharing. Happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteThis looks just like another instant oatmeal I love, Three Sisters, but rebranded! I know they've used the same basic mix under a number of labels, but I hadn't heard of this one before. I sure wish they offered the chia variety too, but I usually go for the apple one.
ReplyDeleteA good instant oatmeal is hard to find, I will try this brand out.
ReplyDeleteI love love love the maple brown sugar flavour. I recently tried the pomegranate and the chai spice flavours but don't like them :(
ReplyDeleteI think I will buy the plain one and copy your topping ideas!
Katia :)
