Town Crier Pub.Friday, September 02, 2011
I purchased a TravelZoo deal coupon a few months back for Town Crier Pub. The offer was for 1 shared appetizer, 2 entrees, 1 shared dessert and 2 pints of beer for $32 dollars. The coupon expires on Sept 9th so we decided to use it tonight (before the detox).
This cute little pub is located at John and Adelaide in the Entertainment District. It has a decent sized patio that would be perfect for afternoon drinks because it’s not overly crowded with Bay St douchebags. This pub is actually owned by the same people who run Village Idiot Pub and Sin & Redemption at Dundas & McCaul. These pubs all carry regular pub food but with a European twist. The beer selection is very German and
I wanted to try a beer that I’ve never had before, but ended up going with a pint of Czechvar. For the appetizer we ordered the vegetable flatbread with fresh spinach, mushrooms, red onions braised Belgian endives, garlic herbs and mozzarella cheese. My entree was the 8oz top sirloin with Belgian frites and vegetables. My boyfriend had the Lamb Shank braised in Sir Perry Pear Cider demi glace served over caramelized Belgian endives, vegetables and potatoes. My meal was surprisingly good! The steak was done to my liking and was tender and juicy. The frites were decent, and vegetables standard. My bf thought his meal was quite average, but the portion was huge. For dessert we only had 3 options, chocolate cake, lemon meringue pie and mango/raspberry cheesecake. We went for the cheesecake and it wasn’t that great at all. There was a huge lump of mango/raspberry mousse on top of a small bit of cheesecake, so yeah overall not the greatest dessert.
Overall this gastropub was quite average. I would probably go back for apps and beers, but don’t think this place would be a regular hot spot.
