Festival of Ribs.

I am back from ribfest and officially stuffed.  I haven’t had that much meat in ages and my stomach definitely isn’t happy about it.  We arrived at ribfest at around 6 pm on Sunday and it was packed!  The whole place reeked of wet dog and smoky bbq.  We hustled our way through the crowds and made our way to the first ribber of choice, Jack on the Bone.  I’ve had Jack on the Bone before but the sauce was a bit too tangy for my liking.  The boys were dead set on getting these ribs so I went next door instead to Billy Bones.  I purchased a half-rack combo which included half rack of ribs, coleslaw and baked beans.  The boys got the same, but from Jack.  We found a seating area amongst the crowd and immediately dug in.  I was shocked at how good my ribs were.  Perfectly tender and literally falling off the bone.  The flavour of the sauce was perfecto, smoky and slightly spicy.  Wes dint enjoy his Jack on the Bones at all.  Maybe he got a bad rack because the rest of the men thoroughly enjoyed them. To make up for the bad ribs he got a massive pulled pork that looked and tasted damn good!

We were really full at this point and a big storm cloud was approaching so we went back to Dino’s house for some beverages.  We decided later on to go to the pub and immediately we ordered jagger bombs for a pick me up.  Out of rib coma we were!  The night went well but I was extremely exhausted from the food and weather.  At around 2 am we finally left the bar and Dino was on a mission for more food.  The only thing open was an Esso station and we bought some small snacks like chips and chocolate. Dino went all out though and bought a Lunchables lol.  Who buys a Lunchables from a gas station at 2 am? haha.

Ribfest day 2

We got up very sluggishly around 11:30 am and headed over to Tim’s for a much needed coffee. On our way to ribfest the boys made up a song called Morning Ribs to the tune of Morning Bell by Radiohead. Ridiculous lol.  Back at ribfest we were looking for a brunch platter.  We decided to try Bibbs BBQ which I had at the last ribfest that came to Pickering.  We ordered more ribs, some pulled pork and freshly squeezed lemonade.  The ribs at Bibbs wasn’t nearly as good as Billy Bones.  They were much more chewy and lacked sauce.  They had amazing baked beans though, lovely spices and chopped onion and green peppers.  Stuffed to the brim, it was time to go home!

Overall ribfest was great!  It’s a shame that we always get so full and have no room to try all the other great stands that are there.  There were funnel cakes, blooming onions, poutine, corn on the cob, and tons more.
